To create a drop-down list in Google Sheets, follow these steps:
Select the cell or range of cells where the drop-down list will appear.
Click on the Data menu at the top of the screen.
Select Data validation from the dropdown options.
In the Data validation dialog box, under Criteria, choose List of items or List from a range:
List of items: Type the options separated by commas. Example:
Yes,No,Maybe.List from a range: Select a range of cells that contain the list values.
Check the box for Show dropdown list in cell to make the arrow visible in the selected cells.
(Optional) Select Reject input to prevent users from entering values not in the list.
Click Save.
The drop-down list will now appear in the selected cells. Users can click the arrow to select a value.

You can use conditional formatting to change the cell color based on the selection.
Drop-down lists can be dynamic if you use List from a range, updating automatically when the range values change.
Long lists can be stored on a separate sheet to keep your main sheet clean.
