To close the header and footer in Excel, follow these steps:

Exit the Header & Footer Tool
Click anywhere outside the header or footer area on your worksheet. This action automatically closes the header and footer editing mode. -
Use the Ribbon

Go to the Header & Footer tab under Page Layout or Insert (depending on your Excel version).

Click Close Header and Footer in the Close group on the ribbon.

Use the Esc Key
Press the Esc key on your keyboard. This exits the header and footer editing mode and returns to the normal worksheet view. -
Switch to Normal View

Click the View tab on the ribbon.

Select Normal in the Workbook Views group. This closes the header and footer area.

These methods work on both Windows and Mac, though the ribbon layout may slightly differ on Mac. On Mac, the Close Header and Footer button is located under Header & Footer in the Layout tab.
