How to hide filter buttons in excel

To hide filter buttons in Excel, follow these steps. Filter buttons appear when a table or a range of data has been filtered, and hiding them can make the worksheet look cleaner without removing the data or filters.

Hiding Filter Buttons in a Table

1. Click anywhere inside the table.

2. Go to the Table Design tab on the ribbon.

3. Uncheck the Filter Button checkbox in the Table Style Options group.

4. The filter buttons on the headers of the table will disappear.

Hiding Filter Buttons in a Normal Range (AutoFilter)

1. Select the range that has the filter applied.

2. Go to the Data tab on the ribbon.

3. Click the Filter button to toggle it off.

4. All filter drop-down arrows will be removed, but the data remains unchanged.

Notes on Windows vs Mac

• On Windows, the Table Design tab appears when a table is selected.

• On Mac, the Table Design tab is labeled as Table Layout, but the option to show or hide filter buttons works the same way.

• The Data → Filter toggle is identical on both platforms.

Hiding filter buttons does not remove the sorting or filtering rules applied. You can still sort data using the Sort options in the Data tab.
