To insert an arrow in Excel, follow these steps:
-
Go to the Insert Tab
Click the Insert tab on the Excel ribbon. This tab contains shapes, charts, and other objects. -
Select Shapes
Click Shapes in the Illustrations group. A drop-down menu appears with different shapes. -
Choose an Arrow Type
Select the arrow style you want, such as:-
Straight Arrow
-
Block Arrow
-
Curved Arrow
-
Connector Arrow
-
-
Draw the Arrow
Click and drag on the worksheet to draw the arrow. The length and direction can be adjusted by dragging the endpoints. -
Format the Arrow
After inserting the arrow, you can format it:-
Color: Change the fill or outline color.
-
Weight: Adjust thickness.
-
Style: Apply dashed or solid lines.
Right-click the arrow and select Format Shape for more options.
-
-
Move or Resize the Arrow
Click the arrow to move it. Drag the corners or endpoints to resize it.
Tips:
-
To keep the arrow perfectly horizontal, vertical, or at 45-degree angles, hold the Shift key while drawing.
-
Use Alt + Drag to snap the arrow to cell edges for precise alignment.
-
For multiple arrows pointing to the same object, copy and paste the first arrow and rotate it.
This method works on Windows and Mac. On Mac, the Shapes button is also under Insert → Shapes, but the interface may have slightly different layout names.
