To change row height in Excel, follow these steps:
Method 1: Using the Mouse
-
Select the row or rows you want to adjust by clicking the row number on the left.
-
Move your mouse pointer to the bottom border of the selected row number until it turns into a double-headed arrow.
-
Click and drag the border up or down to decrease or increase the row height.
-
Release the mouse button when the desired height is reached.
Method 2: Using the Ribbon
-
Select the row or rows you want to adjust.
-
Go to the Home tab on the Ribbon.
-
In the Cells group, click Format.
-
Under Cell Size, select Row Height.
-
Enter the desired row height value and click OK.
Method 3: AutoFit Row Height
-
Select the row or rows to adjust.
-
Move to the Home tab on the Ribbon.
-
In the Cells group, click Format.
-
Choose AutoFit Row Height.
-
Excel automatically adjusts the row height to fit the contents of the cells.
Tips
-
The default row height in Excel is typically 15 points for most fonts and sizes.
-
Row height can range from 0 to 409 points. Setting a height to 0 hides the row.
-
Using AutoFit ensures that all text, including wrapped text, is visible without manually measuring.
Differences Between Windows and Mac
-
On Mac, the steps are mostly the same, but the Format option is found under the Home tab in the menu bar.
-
Mac users can also right-click the row number and select Row Height or Fit to Data for the AutoFit option.
