How to Freeze Panes in Excel

Freeze the Top Row
Freezing the top row keeps the first row visible while scrolling vertically.-
Go to the View tab.

Click Freeze Panes.

Select Freeze Top Row.
The first row remains fixed as you scroll down the sheet.

Freeze the First Column
Freezing the first column keeps the leftmost column visible while scrolling horizontally.-
Go to the View tab.

Select Freeze First Column.
The first column remains visible while moving right across the sheet.

Freeze Specific Rows and Columns
Freezing multiple rows, columns, or both allows for more control.-
Select the cell below the rows and to the right of the columns you want to freeze.

All previously frozen rows and columns return to normal scrolling behavior.
Notes for Windows vs Mac

The View tab location and Freeze Panes options are the same on Windows and Mac.

Mac users can also access Freeze Panes via the Window menu in some Excel versions.
