To freeze a column in Excel, follow these steps to keep specific columns visible while scrolling through the rest of your worksheet.
Steps to Freeze a Column

Select the Column
Click on the column to the right of the column you want to freeze. For example, to freeze column A, select column B. -
Open the View Tab
Go to the View tab in the Excel ribbon. -
Freeze Panes
Click on Freeze Panes in the Window group. -
Choose Freeze Panes Option
From the drop-down menu, select Freeze Panes. The selected column and all columns to the left will remain visible while scrolling horizontally.
Freeze the First Column Quickly

Go to the View tab.

Click Freeze Panes.

Select Freeze First Column.

Column A will remain visible while scrolling.

To unfreeze columns, go to View → Freeze Panes → Unfreeze Panes.

On Mac, the steps are the same, but the Freeze Panes button is located under Window → Freeze Panes in older versions.
This feature is useful for keeping headers or key data visible while navigating large datasets.
